Shiny, shiny….

After a weekend of on/off sewing my butterfly brooch is finally starting to take shape. It has been a very fiddly process, particularly adding the spangles – especially as my fingers are rather like oversized bananas! The directions are very explicit, clear and simple to understand – but in practice it takes a lot of patience to get everything just so. I see little point in rushing to finish and then not wanting to wear the product because of mistakes that have been made along the way – and we are always our worst critics. I finally decided to have a break when my eyes started seeing double!

Just looking at the picture, I can spot several spangles that are not lying flat. This will really annoy me and I may have to go back and redo them.

My name is Deborah, and my earliest recollection of being creative is learning how to smock at primary school. We had a wonderful, white-haired lady who came in once a week to teach the 'girls' how to sew. I am not sure what the boys got up to during this time - but I never once felt as though I was missing out on anything. Now, as a primary teacher, I often give up evenings to teach enthusiastic children how to embroider. I am now just about to embarked into the world of blogging. Who knows if anyone will be interested, or if I can even keep it up. But here goes....
