Hi everyone, I hope that you have all had a productive three weeks. I have been busy sewing quilting blocks for a swap. Most (actually all) my blocks have winged there way across the water to the USA. I hope to make my first quilt, something I have wanted to do for many years. Not too sure how I am going to quilt all the blocks once I have sewn them together as I do not have a long arm quilter (whatever that it!) – so it will have to be done by hand!
As to my SAL piece, well that has been put on the backburner a little. I have however managed to get a little stitching done but not on the fins. I decided to tackle the needle lace background. My first attempt was, quite frankly, pretty awful! My second attempt was a little better. Luckily most of it will be covered up by the little fish!
So here it is…… the needle lace background.
As it is now the Easter holidays I am hopeful that I will be able to show some work on the fins and tail next time. Meanwhile in the garden the signs of spring are all about and yellow is the predominant colour.
Thank you for popping in. Happy stitching and I hope to see you all in another 3 weeks.
We are a small group of crafters using a variety of different techniques. Please check out the fabulous stitching by all the other members of the SAL. If you are interested in joining us you can contact Avis for details.

Very productive Deborah, those quilting blocks look beautiful. I love all the bunnies and that carrot fabric is perfect to go with them! Jenny x
Thanks Jenny – it is the first time that I have made ‘real’ quilting blocks. Most of these are destined to be in someone else’s quilt though!
How lovely to think they are part of lots of different projects x
Deborah, those are some cute fabrics for the quilt blocks, and the needle lace is really intricate. It looks good to me, and I bet will be just fine as a background for Mr. FIsh! As for the quilting, you can do it in your regular sewing machine, that’s how I do mine. A walking foot works best for straight stitching, and if you put your feed dogs down you can do free motion quilting pretty easily. I’m not good at feathers or the fancy stuff, but I can do a couple of styles of all over quilting that way, and it works well.
Ooh, I have a walking foot – once I get enough blocks together I will have a go! Thank you.
The needle lace looks fine from here 🙂 There’s loads of good videos on Youtube that show you how to quilt on a domestic sewing machine. Good luck!
Thank you – just need to get enough blocks together now!
Needlelace can be tricky, but what I can see looks pretty good!
Thank you!
Love your quilt, those fussy cut rabbits are so cute! I’ve not tried needle lace, it looks hard!! I think it will look fine with the fish swimming by !
Thank you – shame I have sent the blocks half way around the world. That said I have received some lovely blocks in return.
I do all my quilting by hand 🙂 No need to have or use a machine to get the job done 🙂 cute block pattern. I have never done needle lace before. You make it look easy ~ Sharon
Thanks Sharon – once I get all the blocks together I will give it a go!
those patchwork blocks are all very pretty & seasonal ^^
Thank you
Beautiful!!!!!
Thank you – although it doesn’t bare up to close scrutiny!
All your projects are unique and interesting to me. I really like those Dresden wheels you made and that canvas piece looks amazing. And it looks like you are really getting the hang of the needle lace! Amazing!
Thank you Jocelyn – I would describe myself as a Jack of all trades, master of none! I do like to have several things on the go at once.
That fish is just to stunning for words. Lovely work as always.
Gorgeous quilting squares, such lovely details in each. 🙂
Love watching your pieces grow, always so very interesting.
Aww – thank you, Johanna
Needlelace is always tricky, and this is going to be a lovely background for your fish! Well done on getting it stitched so nicely. Good luck with your quilt too! I’m completely clueless I’m afraid!
So am I !
I’m always in awe of your projects — I’ve never tried needle lace, but yours looks lovely. And I love the bunny blocks! Fun that they’ll be spread around the world.
Thank you – needle lace is a bit hit and miss with me, but I keep trying!
I do like needle lace. It’s going to be fun to see how the elements of this project come together. 🙂
It might be a while yet!
