Hello everyone, I do hope you have all managed to enjoy Christmas. Ours was very quiet – just the two of us (and dog), but it was also quite relaxing as there was no pressure to entertain or get in the car to make the numerous visits we normally do.
Now that I have finally finished my little blue wren etui, designed by Jenny Adin-Christie – he needs a base to sit on, which also provides a place to put a pair of embroidery scissors and a little pin cushion.
The first job is to cut out and mount the velvet base onto a white cotton backing using herringbone stitch. Then mark out where the pin cushion will sit and the embroidery will go.

Once in place I made a start on trapping spangles in a green organza. These will create texture over the base.

So that is what I have managed to achieve in the last few weeks – not much I know, but a step in the right direction. Many thanks for popping in and look forward to catching up in three weeks time.
Happy stitching.

You are always working on the most interesting and intricate projects! I can’t wait to see how the base comes together.
I am a little worried as there is no set pattern for the base!
ooooh, this looks interesting and can’t wait to see little Wren fully finished ^^
I hope it is not too long now as I have so many projects in the pipeline that need finishing.
I’m very intrigued by this organza-&-spangle texture!
It is new to me too!
Your wren is going to have a beautiful perch, can’t wait to see it on its spangly home! xx
Lots of new techniques to learn yet!
I’m very intrigued by the spangly process!
They are going to add texture to the base, along with several other new techniques to me. Hope they work.
I am excited to see what this is going to look like. Love velvet. It is perfect for your gorgeous bird.
Curious to see what this base ends up looking like. Of course, the wren has a bit more flash than your garden variety wren so I guess his perch ought to be flashier too! Well done on the completion of the bird by the way!
Thank you, I think the base is muted to let the bird shine.
That texture work looks very interesting! Looking forward to seeing how this all fits together!
So am I Kathy – I have to admit that I am a little unsure as to how this will look in the end.
I’ve never worked on velvet before. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
It is a first for me too!
This project is very exciting!
And very time consuming!!
Ooh, there’s more. This looks fascinating. Can’t wait to see the finished piece 🙂
