Starting to bug me…..

Slow progress on the bug front. I have just padded the head of the beetle in white felt and outlined with No. 1 pearl purl. I filled in the pronotum with a mix of Japanese thread and metallic purl.

On closer inspection of the pictures you can see that my overall design was not evenly drawn out in the initial stages, making the central coloured bands of the pronotum very unequal in size. The trouble with working on a piece like this is that you can get so involved in the little details that you miss looking at the overall picture. Still, maybe I shouldn’t be too hard on myself as this is a first attempt. I plan on using chippings to fill in this area and then I will turn my attention to the eyes. I want quite bulbous, textured eyes – any ideas?

About wybrow1966

My name is Deborah, and my earliest recollection of being creative is learning how to smock at primary school. We had a wonderful, white-haired lady who came in once a week to teach the 'girls' how to sew. I am not sure what the boys got up to during this time - but I never once felt as though I was missing out on anything. Now, as a primary teacher, I often give up evenings to teach enthusiastic children how to embroider. I am now just about to embarked into the world of blogging. Who knows if anyone will be interested, or if I can even keep it up. But here goes....

Such lovely colours! I think he’s coming along so well. So much fiddly work involved! Would some nice big beads for his eyes work? Maybe some that aren’t completely round?

  2. You are truly an artist with your needle. I love your work, this is stunning. 🙂

How about black riolis Swarovski crystals for the eyes? The eyes will really shine then.
